The Filipino American Marriage Group of Arizona will be hosting a fun and interactive dance workshop for kids and teens ages 7 to 15 years old. The workshop is FREE and will focus on traditional Philippine folk dances such as Maglalatik, Sayaw sa Bangko, Carinosa, Bulaklakan, Tinikling, Singkil, and Sinulog Dance. Instructors will provide guidance to all participants in addition to sharing interesting details about the cultural significance of each dance.
As a family-oriented bicultural group, we feel it is important to teach our Filipino American youth about different aspects of their culture and thereby allowing them to connect with their heritage and develop a deeper understanding of long-held traditions. Not only can this foster a greater sense of pride and identity, but also help them to feel more connected to their culture and community overall.
Moreover, learning traditional folk dances can provide children and teens with an opportunity to express themselves both creatively and physically. Dance can also help to improve coordination, fitness, and overall well-being. The workshop is open to all skill levels and no previous dance experience is necessary. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to teach the next generation more about the vibrant culture of the Philippines through dance!
